Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7

Words are not enough to describe my love for children. The connection to them has been a magnificent theme throughout my life—from teaching, to becoming a mother and now writing children’s books. The most beautiful treasures created by our Heavenly Father are children.

I’ve had the desire to donate my hair for quite some time and prayed to be guided to an organization that helped children with hair loss. After extensive research, God led me to Wigs For Kids.

Wigs For Kids Mission Statement

“Wigs for Kids has been providing Hair Replacement Systems and support for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy, radiation therapy, Alopecia, Trichotillomania, burns and other medical issues at no cost to children or their families. The effects of hair loss go deeper than just a change in a child’s outward appearance. Hair loss can erode a child’s self-confidence and limit them from experiencing life the way children should. With an injured self-image, a child’s attitude toward treatment and their physical response to it can be negatively affected also. Wigs for Kids helps children suffering from hair loss look themselves and live their lives. Because we never charge families for hair replacements, we depend on generous people like you that want to help donate hair for cancer and other sources of hair loss.”

The emotional impact of hair loss.

Hair loss, no matter the cause or treatment plan, can be devastating to a child’s emotional health and self-esteem. Children who are battling hair loss due to alopecia areata, trichotillomania, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or other causes can have an extremely difficult time adjusting to life without hair. In addition to a loss of self-confidence, these children often are ridiculed or bullied due to their baldness or thinning hair.

I prayed and pleaded to God to give me courage, especially because I keep hearing fhe enemy’s whispers that I will criticized for cutting my hair. I told our Heavenly Father that when I look at those children, my heart yearns to help and encourage others to also help them somehow. I don’t have the means to give monetarily, but I can give my hair that HE helped me to grow.

The following verse is immensely meaningful to me.

1 Corinthians 11:15 English Standard Version (ESV)

but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering.

The joy I felt in donating 15 inches of my hair to help make a head covering for a young girl who is truly in need of one, is indescribable.

Please consider donating to Wigs For Kids.
